One Year, 50,000 Miles and Seventy Wise Women

Karen is ready to move on Suddenly, through the wonder of email, I was connected to women from all around the country, each with a story of her own. And each one led me to another. Their emails opened the door to my journey and I was smart enough to step over the threshold.

After one year on the road and interviews of seventy wise women, here I am, writing Journeys: 50,000 Miles of Wise Women. It isn’t the novel I thought I’d write. Journeys represents something so much more.

I traveled to thirty states, some more than once. To a yoga community in northern California, a buffalo reserve in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, a quilting bee in North Carolina. I drove to Mississippi, Ohio, Oregon, Santa Fe, and on and on. I sat in kitchens, in living rooms and on porches, laughing and crying with women I had just met as they shared the quiet details of their epic stories. Each woman gave me a piece of the puzzle for living an authentic life.

Journeys is my attempt to pull those disparate pieces together into a cohesive picture and to share the beauty with you. Journeys is my calling to give voice to women who quietly transform their lives with real courage, creativity and authenticity. And what did I learn?
